Regardless of the 5 varieties of Yakima Valley hops, it is still a far cry from the original American Amber. Although it is not bad at all, there is nothing really remarkable about it - is rather watery than hoppy.

On tap at the brewery. Off white head. Amber copper color. Lace.

Malty and a touch of sweetness with resiny hops. Grapefruit and pine. Hoppy red ale. Ends sticky with some weedy notes.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2018. ABV is stated as 4.1%. Picked up recently from Waitrose. The label mentions that this is brewed with 5 hop varieties from the Yakima valley.

A: Poured into a tulip. A clear marmalade hue with good carbonation. Yields a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of resinous hops with hints of pine, weed, vague citrus peel, caramel malt, a touch of grain and ale yeast. Pretty good.

T: Tastes of pine-heavy hops with notes of pine resin, weed, mild citrus peel, caramel malt, barley sugar, light grain and ale yeast. Slightly sweet and a tad watery. A restrained hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body. Aftertaste of bitter resinous hops, caramel malt and yeast.

O: A drinkable brew - hoppy yet balanced. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour successfully blend pine, caramel and yeast. Body is OK; slightly too thin. Goes down alright and would certainly work as a regular drinking beer. Worth sampling.

Pours a very dark (Ribena) red. The thin head recedes quickly to a ring. Looks like a fruit beer.

Smell is roasted malt and ripe strawberry.

Tastes of red berries and twizzlers. Mildly bitter. Some resin

Thin body with moderate carbonation and a dry finish.

Not sure what to make of this. More fruity and less hoppy than I was led to believe by the blurb on the bottle. That said, an American Amber Ale is supposed to be malt-forward so...?

Pours a copper colour, with two fingers head that vanishes soon. Aroma of caramel, muscatel, hints of dark fruits, resine and some citrus. Light body, a bit watery, not much carbonation. Taste is sour, sith some toffee, muscatel, resine and citrus. Not really the best of Meantime.

Reddy brown and clear with lots of large and small bubbles. Topped with 2 fingers of foamy beige head.

Smells of fine linen with hints of fruity essence. Toffee, caramelized sugar, toasted notes. Red liquorice.

Linen and toasted notes, not sweet but red liquorice comes in again along with light fruity notes.

Medium light body with soda like carbonation.

Found in Bangkok at Villa market, drank in Chiang Mai Oct 22nd, 2015. Fine brew.

L: reddish brown, clear, with thin white head
S: tangerine hops, tea leaves, lemon rind, caramel malts
T: caramel malt, some coffee (roasted malts), grape-fruity bitterness. all of these fade away fairly quickly, leaving not-much of a impression
F: watery (thin body)
O: I was expecting some more body with this (American) style. On the other hand, it is relatively drinkable/pint-able. May be I see the British theme (low alcohol) with american hops (I haven't tried good british beers yet)

Amber colour.
Hoppy aroma. Smell of sweet caramel and citrus fruits.
Malt and hop flavour. Good balance.
Well carbonated but served somewhat cold for my liking. Thin.

Fresh at the Blue Boar, Conrad St James Hotel, London, on tap. I found this beer to be much better than its reviews perhaps its midsummer's eve in London?
It's more of a session brown ale, but tastes of Red Yakima.

A: Pours slightly hazy copper with medium-large tan head that laces well.

S: American-style Yakima hops; both bitter as well as floral. Pineapple and fruit flowers dominate, but there's plenty of roasted caramel malt with a British dose of sweetness.

T: Follows smell and malt dominates: Sweet light roasted malt and caramel. Floral hops. Nice long English deep, dark citric finish.

M: Light in body, medium in carbonation and nice bitter end.

O: More taste and heft than expected in a 4% session ale. I like it.

Look: Red? Nope - quite unlike any red ale I've seen. More of a deep, coppery colour with no trace of haze or sediment. Fingers-width of off-white head with good retention which settles down to a uniform foam cap

Smell: Not a lot going on, smell-wise. What is there consists mainly of malts with citrus note creeping in a little bit later.

Taste: Going by the name of this you'd expect something with a pronounced hop tone. You'd be wrong. In fact, this is a surprisingly malt-forward brew with a perfunctory hit of hops in the aftertaste. The hops add a bit of citrusy earthiness, but otherwise the malts definitely take centre stage here.

Feel: Fairly light and dry throughout, with a lingering bitterness in the aftertaste.

Overall: Disappointing - the bottle blurb proclaims the fact that this is brewed with five different types of American hops (Yakima included) but this really doesn't come through at all in the taste. As amber ales go, it's not too bad but the fact remains that there are better ones out there, both with and without Yakima hops. Worth trying if you come across it, but not worth the effort of hunting down.

Aromas of sweet caramel and subtle rye and some fruit. Small white head and clear amber body. Taste is bitter with notes of caramel, apples and citrus. Overall a good beer.

330ml bottle from Utobeer, London:
Light copper with a thumb sized head that is a foamy white before roughly halving in size.

Biscuit malts and citrus notes make up the smell initially, along with a slightly astringent aroma and some fruits around the middle that consist mainly of orange and citrus ones. There is some caramel towards the end.

Caramel malts and a slightly sweet taste kick things off along with some biscuit malts from the nose and a light, earthy taste that is coupled with hints of fruit as well.

Light medium with a bittersweet mouthfeel and a slight citrus tang. The beer is smooth for the most part and leaves a lingering bitter aftertaste.

Not a bad amber ale and one that had a nice balance to it between the biscuit malts and the bittersweet flavours than became more pronounced as the beer had time to settle.

A: Actually pours kind of red, more of a coppery red with a creamy head.
S: Hmm nope.
T: Tons of toffee and a little strawberry?. Very malty.
M: Good carbonation with a nice crisp finish.
O: Was excited by the name, suggesting a beautiful Yakima hop character but it's not here. Maybe it's an old bottle and the hops have dropped.

Pours dark amber with a quickly fading white head.
Nose shows some bready biscuity malt along with soft earthy and spicy hops.
Similar flavours, mainly toasty and bready malt with just a hint of spicy hops.
Carbonation is a little high.
Could be a bit more daring.

Pours more amber than golden. Good head and lacing.

Smell is orange rind, Grand Marnier, chalky, thin toffee.

Taste is more like a doppelbock or musty English ale. Not really getting the US hops here.

Mouthfeel features a mounting bitterness from mid to back palate. Toffee in the finish.

More of a traditional English-style beer with the US hops adding more of a twist to the beer rather than being the main star.

Still, I found this beer somewhat disappointing considering the pull of the "Yakima" name.

Bought this as usual at the Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Poured it into my Palm snifter.

Pours a small fine head that reduces soon to a thin layer leaving only little lacing. Body shows lots of fine carbonation and very clear light amber colour.

Smell of citric hops and darker malts.

Taste follows the nose with citric hoppiness, some bitterness and also little of a slightly roasted malt. Additionally there is a sourness that reminds of a mineral water.

Very strongly carbonated. Feels like like a mineral water like San Pellegrino and its brothers. I wouldn't call it watery though. Highly refreshing without being too burpy.

Very drinkable and highly enjoyable for such low ABV. It reminds me strongly of mineral water. Maybe the connection comes from my choice of glassware, but this could be a Palm beer spritzer. This is the coldest days of the year as the Grachten are freezing here in Amsterdam, but this beer makes a really good thirst quencher on a hot day with its low alcohol content. Definitely better than your mass produced pilsner. I think I will try that again in approximately 6 months...

I had it on tap at the Brewery in Greenwich. It is made with a combination of US hops with British and German malts.
Clear amber reddish color. It made a two finger head which was consistent but with low retention.
Fruity aroma with predominance of passion fruit. Light to medium body with good carbonation and small bubbles.
It has a sweet malt taste balanced with a citric and fruit flavor. The aftertaste is bitter and dry an a bit spicy.
Zesty and very refreshing with a huge drinkability.

A: Pours a bit cloudy orange to amber color forming a medium yellow aired head. Some few lacingss are left

S: Smells like an English Bitter despite of the notes of American hops. Sweet and caramel malts, citrus hops

T: Follows the nose. Sweet malts, caramel malts. Citrus and grassy hops. Upfront is mild sweet. End is mild bitter. In overall it's quite watery in the mouth

M: Light watery body. Medium to low carbonation. Mild citrus hoppy aftertaste

O: Easy drinking. However too watery. Lacks body and some personality

The colour is gold-red (13 EBC), the liquid is clear. The finger thick head is yellowish and airy. It sinks quickly leaving lots of lacing on the glass.

The smell is dry and citric. Sour fruit candy and fresh hop cones. Distinct new world flavours.

The body is light. OK, at 4 % I had expected a quite light beer, but not this thin. Green fruits; kiwi, mangoes, green bananas, grapefruit and lemon peels. Odd chemical hints of detergents and rubber. Some quick passing bitter flavours. The aftertaste got fruity hoppy flavours, some dry malt and a hint of caramel.

The carbonation is medium strong, the short lasting bubbles small. The liquid is watery and semi-dry.

Thin and unbalanced. I didn’t like.

The beer is clear amber, a tan head that settles rather quickly but leaves good lacing, some curtains.

The smell is floral and citric, a bouquet of flowers in a can of grape-fruit juice.

Starting sweet, loaf of bread with some toffee, then citric nuances and a grape-fruit peel finishing bitterness.

Medium high carbonation, medium sized lively bubbles, slightly sticky and with a dry finish.

More hoppy in an American IPA resemblance than expected. For a red I prefer less hops and more malt.

T: Sweet light roasted malt, caramell. Bitter hops. Some citric and piney notes, but the taste is milder than the smell...

M: Light in body, medium in carbonation and short bitter aftertaste.

O: Well, this is a beer with low ABV, it's quite obviuos why - there could have been so much more malt in it...

This session red ale is brewed in England using 5 hop varieties from the Yakima Valley.

The cool black, white and pink label says t was brewed in march 2011. Best by date is january 3rd 2012.

It pours a hazy dark orange reddish color with a small tan head that persists for a fairly good time on top of the beer. Lacing is average.

This is not as fresh a bottle as it should be but it still retains a certain flowery, spicy and grassy hop aroma, although faint. Caramel and biscuity malts are also present in the nose.

Taste begins with cereal, biscuity and bready malts, also with a touch of caramel. Hops then kick in with flavors bolder than what the aroma suggested. The main character is grassy and piney but I also get nice spicy and flowery notes. Not so many citrus as one would expect. Bitterness is mild and very welcome as it grows towards the end of the sip. It finishes dry as it should.

Body is medium to low with moderate to high carbonation. Very drinkable and sessionable, specially at 4% abv.

Overal a nice and easy to drink beer from the folks at meantime. I'd love to drink this one fresh on tap.

Pours a nice red with a decent tan head. Lightly carbonated. Clean lacings.

Definitely an Americna hop aroma, but pretty light on the usual citrus flavours, with the focus on resinous pine.

Malting seems thoroughly English, quite biscuity with a touch of dark fruit. Mild bitterness throughout, but picks up in the finish with moderate pine notes.

This is an approachable American Red. Doesn't really hold a torch to the examples from the other side of the Atlantic, but still a nice beer.
