Brewed in collaboration with Plonk Bottleshop in Canberra, which is nearly 1200km south of the brewery. Such is the tyranny of distance in Australia. Purchased as part of a Plonk mixed pack for Christmas 2021 but for various reasons not drunk until June 2022, by which point the beer was ten months old. I've taken the loss of freshness into account below,
Pours a bright coppery orange with a one-finger persistent white head. Lovely lacing down the glass.
The nose is big, dank hops. There's no grapefruit, and my assumption is the grapefruit had faded while the dankness had grown in the ten months since the beer was brewed.
The taste, as expected, has lost all trace of grapefruit, replaced with big, bitter dank hops, which I still very much enjoyed. There was none of the subtlety I imagine the beer originally possessed, but I was still very happy with the beer as it stood when I got to it. There was no hint of metallic off-flavours or anything to suggest it was past its prime, other than the lack of grapefruit, what with it being a grapefruit IPA and all...
In the mouth, there was medium carbonation and a smooth body.
Overall, despite being ten months old, this was an excellent beer and very enjoyable. Would drink it fresh if ever it was brewed again.
Cheers!
