8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - always nice to try a smaller sample (than a growler, I mean) whilst killing two birds with one stone.
This beer appears a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of wispy and bubbly bone-white head, which leaves some pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as things slowly progress.
It smells of dank pine resin, gritty and grainy cereal malt, some mixed domestic citrus peel, a stony flintiness, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, muddled citrus flesh, some damp minerality, and more leafy, weedy, and piney verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-assuring frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, with a touch of hop astringency maybe extracting a minor tithe here. It finishes trending dry, the malt starting to show some cracks at the seams.
Overall - this comes across as a sort of a cross between the West Coast and New England styles of IPA. Anyways, it's quite good, and perhaps worth making the journey out to the deep southside - just not during this crazy holiday traffic, unless you thrive on shit like that.
