16oz glass at the brewpub in South Edmonton, on a pleasantly sunny and melty February afternoon. I just got the reference (maybe) - 'Number 5 is aliiiiive'. Sweet.

This beer appears a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some stellar defrosting back windshield pattern lace around the glass as it evenly blows off.

It smells of breast and biscuity cereal malt, some lemon, orange, and pink grapefruit citrus flesh, a damp minerality, and plain earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, some muddled domestic citrus peel, and more understated leafy, weedy, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-tingling frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, with just a hint of hop acridity maybe taking things down a notch or so here. It finishes trending dry, with the frooty essences essentially bottoming out in the lingering fold.

Overall, this comes across as an earnest attempt at mimicking that most venerable of YEG-made pale ales - yes, ol' Full Moon itself. The 'juicy' nature stated in the name is fleeting at best, which indicates a hop origin, as opposed to grocery aisle bounty additions. At any rate, it's pretty good, refreshing, and easy to put back - worth checking out.
