Barrel Aged Black Excellence

Had a 9 oz. snifter poured at the bar. I rated the appearance lower, perhaps, because it was intentionally poured with by the server without a head. The beer itself, a barrel aged stout, was solid black, with adequate carbonation. The smell was pleasant, coffee, bourbon, and chocolate. The taste was beautiful... deep, rich flavor, bursting with bourbon and coffee, minor notes of chocolate and licorice. The aftertaste was a bit more bitter than I would prefer, but not if it meant giving up any of the outstanding quality coffee within the brew. The mouthfeel was quite good for a 10.5 ABV brew loaded with coffee oils... I was expecting ti to be a bit stiffer. Eastern Market does sell 16 oz. cans to go... sadly, none of this was available. Overall, this is a fine brew, boozy, robust, and a tad bitter. Not for the faint-hearted! I hope to try it again!
