my favorite of the colony beers i have had so far, and easily the most drinkable of them, makes sense for it to be their house beer, given that it was first and still is a coffee shop also. this is wonderful beer, it really is, a simple and clean and well made kolsch as a base, made interesting with excellent coffee here, likely a cold brew, as this has a concentrated and somewhat intense coffee flavor and aroma, but very little acidity that comes with espresso and drip types. there is a distinct chocolate character to the nose, and a beautiful nuttiness in with the roast, a softly sweet hazelnut character in the coffee, maybe even some actual hazelnut in here, its pretty robust. the coffee is awesome in the flavor, strong but not intense enough that the delicate german nature of the base beer doesnt still come through, and its still real crisp, never too heavy or roasty or bitter or anything, its maxed out while respecting its own confines here, staying absurdly drinkable, and packing a pretty solid caffeine boost as well! A beer of fabulous complexity, which is not something i usually associate with the kolsch style. it seems built for coffee, and this type of coffee and addition no less. i loved this, i reckon its their best beer right now! already thirsty for more...
