Picked up at Liquor World.
Pours dark almost inky black with a very small brown head that fades quickly, decent legs
Nose starts with sweet bourbon barrel, toasted and vanilla oak, baking spices, sweet barrel juice, with that is dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, a little charred roast bordering burnt, anise, burnt caramel, hint of dark fruits
Taste brings more of everything, stout out front with big roast, burnt caramel, plenty of dark coffee, anise and general baking spices, dark chocolate and cocoa, bitter roast and fair bitter spicy hops, intense roast and char but not quite burnt in general other than burnt caramel, mild warming alcohol flavor, barrel is there but muted compared to the rest, a little bourbon with fair vanilla spice, touch rummy even, more dark bitter coffee late on the sweet sticky finish with a bit more spicy hop bitterness as well and plenty of fudgey cocoa
Mouth is full bod, rich chewy, lower on the carb but OK, alcohol does tingle and warm a fair amount
Overall mixed, the base RIS is pretty nice although a bit too much on the roast side and not as much malt depth as I expected, and very little dark fruits, barrel was nice on the nose but almost disappeared on the taste, I def think it could have benefited from a bit more of the juicier malts and especially more time in the barrel
