my first from these guys, courtesy of my beer mail buddy back east, nice send dude! this is blonde for the style, much lighter and less long boiled and caramelized seeming to me, paler in color and lighter in body and residual sugar, but still fully authentically german and loaded with malt character, a different side of the style that i really enjoyed. a very light amber color from the can with good clarity and a short but stocky and lasting white head. the nose here is nutty and just a tad sweet, i get english toffee, baked rolls, and candied almond, nice mineral profile, some soft raisin in there too, and maybe just a waft of alcohol. the flavor is excellent too, not as layered and heavy as many, but i dont miss the palate coating density or the long finishing sweetness, instead its more obviously a lagered, a european yeast strain doing its job quite effectively, drying out the back and and making this borderline refreshing for the style. the body is a bit minimum for what this is, i guess it matches the somewhat mild flavor, this almost presents more as a maibock, or at least as a hybrid between the two, different but not wildy so, a neat creative liberty and great execution. very solid, looking forward to trying more from these guys down the line!
