Dirty brown colored body. Next to no foam head; just a little thin ring. Lots of dark sediment. No lacing.
Aroma is malt, sour yeast and a bit of non-sweet strawberry.
Taste has the flavor of unsweetened strawberry over sour malt.
Medium mouth feel. Nearly flat carbonation.
Strawberry flavor is authentic. Base beer is slightly sour but lacks flavor. Odd beer.

exceptionally unique stuff here, as expected from these guys. a brown berliner with strawberries, wild! unfortunately it smells a little oxidized and seems a little dated as we drink it, but its a very cool brew and still enjoyable even past its prime. no real head on it, a light brown, shiny look, with some flaky sediment towards the bottom of the uniquely shaped bottle. it looks like a glass of brandy more than a beer. the nose is obvious strawberry, jammy and concentrated, with definite sweetness balancing very mild lactic acidity from the base beer. no real roast or even chocolate character from the grain, which smells, tastes, and feels much lighter than it looks, not even really very wheaty at all to me, which i expected in the style. lots of minerals, a curious ale yeast element on top of the lacto, and more and more berry as it warms, almost a fruit wine vibe, some earthy tang, almost no carbonation, near still, a curious texture for this, its still light, but no life to it. i wish this was fresher, i think it has a ton of potential and it doesnt seem poorly executed at all, but the ravages of time and a warm shelf, where we so frequently find these beers, have taken their toll. i like the idea of a darker but not black berliner, and i love the inclusion of the strawberries, which still are prominent and seem natural in here. weird but good, which is pretty much always the case with freigeist!

It pours a clear light brown, impressive long lasting head of foam.

I smell the strawberries implying light tartness. Some sweet malt underneath.

The taste is light on the strawberry and tartness, weird malt flavour, some Weiss character. Unusual flavours going on here. There's no dating on the bottle so I don't know if it's fresh or not.

Light body, very low carbonation.

Strange beer. It's a healthy 5%abv but feels weaker.

Undated bottle, stored at 42 degrees and served at 44 degrees in a hand-washed and hand-dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.
Body – Brown and murky. When held to the light, it takes on a red-amber translucency.
Head – None. While pouring, a light brown small fizzy head exists but disappears almost immediately with the end of the pour. No ring, layer, or lacing is left behind.
Lacing – None.
First pour – Light brown, clear.
Aroma – 3 - Sweet and malty, weak.
Flavor – 3.5 – Leads with the carbonation and only after it subsides does the slightly sweet fruitiness begin to appear. This quickly passes and you are left with a sweet thin coating on the palate. However, as it warms, the malt makes an appearance. No hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, lively carbonation.
Impression and summation - 3.25 – This brew is somewhat of a puzzle – on BA it’s listed as a Berliner Weissbier but the label says a Berliner brown beer so I guess it’s supposed to be a cross between the two styles. Whatever. The appearance certainly fits the “Scheisse” part of the name – brown and unappetizing. At least the nose isn’t bad. This is very lacking in flavor until it has set for about half an hour – at that point some of the malt appears. This is also very watery. It is drinkable but I’m not sure why anyone would want to. Of the Freigeist Bierkultur brews I have consumed, this seems the most pointless.

A: The beer is clear brownish red in color (brown when viewed from afar) and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that quickly died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of dark and nutty malts and strawberries are present in the nose.
T: The taste follow the smell, having flavors of nutty and dark malts along with notes of strawberries and a light to moderate amount of sourness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is definitely one of the most unusual Berliner Weissbiers that I've had, although I found it to be quite interesting because the malts were not overdone so you still get the fruit and sourness.

Coffee-red color with a bubbly off-white color head.

Faint aromas of fruity cleaning solution, a touch of jam.

Flavor is the tops of strawberries...leafy green, some slight sour acidic qualities. A touch of cider and bread on the finish.

Feel is crisp but leaves a slight chalky coating on the palate.

Overall, it's not a particularly tasty Berliner...but what is. It's okay, it's drinkable, but nothing I'd really return to.

 

 

 

 

 

Like nothing I've tasted. Looks like loose "Scheisse." Bit of the dark malt, grainy flavors and mild souring are awesome together. Aroma is subdued and revealing. Mouthfeel is to style. Great beer. Had more than one.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours hazy ruby red/copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a spotty lace cap that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing clings on the glass. Good appearance. Aromas of lightly tart strawberry, lemon, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, light pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of strawberries, bready malt, and fruity/earthy yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly tart strawberry, lemon, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, light pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light fruity tartness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of strawberry, lemon, pear, apple, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good robustness and balance of strawberries, bready malt, and fruity/earthy yeast notes; with a good malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tartness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/grainy, and lightly acidic mouthfeel that is good. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is very solid fruited Berliner weisse. All around good robustness and balance of strawberries, bready malt, and fruity/earthy yeast notes; very smooth and refreshing to drink. Was hoping for more lactic acid character; but the flavor profile was very well balanced with the fruit, and still quite enjoyable.
