Pours viscous, somewhat hazy deep amber to coppery-brown body topped by beige, short-lived bubbly head.
I dunno what beer style has been used as a base in this one, so it's hard to tell how good is reflected the balance between the underlying beer and spice/herbal adjuncts. Because the base-style is unknown the review will be merely a listing of organoleptic features. Aroma is reminiscent of a herbal liqueur with honeyish sweetness, caramel and toasty notes introduced by malt, and some alcohol. The palate is honey-sweet with spicy notes that could be hop or phenol-derived or even from actual spices added. Considering the overall sweetness, finish is surprisingly dry and clean, with good amount of balancing bitterness and warming alcohol. Full bodied and viscous despite that some fermentables, i.e. honey, have been added and which could thin out the body a bit. Before sugar there was honey, and long before hops were discovered people relied on herbs to bitter their beer. No one knows with certainty how an ancient European beers tasted, but this one seems a pretty good approximation to my mental picture.
