Pours black with a finger of mocha colored foam. Head has decent retention, just getting matted down by some heavy oil on the top of the dark liquid. Aroma is roasty and toasty malts with heavy vanilla, brown batter, and dark chocolate adding additional sweetness and depth. Vanilla stays just shy of being cloyingly sweet despite its bold addition to the aroma. Barrel play is behind, adding some rye zest and heat to the heavy stout. Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts stacked with vanilla beans on every axis. Decadence at every turn. Late in the flavor profile, brownie batter and dark chocolate arrive, sweeping away any remaining vanilla bean. Barrel isn't really present aside from a sly remark right at the close, adding just a slight swell of heat. Mouth feel is thick with a little grist to the texture, otherwise it's soft. Overall, really decadent and wonderful stout. Despite the lengthy list of vanilla bean in the description, pleased to find it's not a sugar bomb nor does it fail to showcase a rich and complex imperial stout beneath. KC isn't well known for stouts compared to our STL brethren, but if more places made stouts like this - we'd be on the map with a highlight.
