The bartender asked me if I wanted a lemon. Nice of her to ask. Often a lemon wedge is arbitrarily tacked on to a hefe and frequently itÂ’s just a distracting nuisance. In this case I opted for the wedge but the beer made no demands of it.
Hoof-e-weisen (exact spelling from the menu board) is a clouded yellow-gold wheat beer with a charmed grainy aroma and a soft white head. Though the body is sullen and headless and yields no lace, the taste shows a clean yeasted wheat profile with a bit of tang. All-in-all, a crisp and refreshing ale. Almost nourishing.
Note: This is a hefeweizen, not a dunkel. It's ABV is listed at the bar as 5.0%.
