Delivered to the bar, Choco Dog displayed a hazy chestnut brown body with glowing golden and orange highlights at the base of the glass. The creamy white head slowly dwindled down to an average collar, and the lacing left behind was just average (must be the oil from the cocoa).
The aroma was quite eye opening with bright notes of chocolate and cocoa over a toasty malt base.
The flavor followed suit with the addition of some spicy and grassy hops. Richly malty! A median bitterness balanced it, but it finished with plenty of lingering cocoaish malt (which was fine).
An interesting beer. Not quite a dessert beer, but there's definitely a lot of chocolate going on. And the malt profile was really nice as well. In fact, it's really very English in character beneath the cocoa, but as it's got that added I really think it's more of an American style. In any case, such an interesting and charming beer should not be passed up!
