Growler closeout from Albertsons. What a deal! Nice fluffy head, dark brown body. Coffee bitterness in the aroma, roast grains/burnt toast and semi-sweet chocolat in the flavor. Almost chewy body. Big, thick, flavorful stout.

LOW abv sweet stout with coffee and vanilla? Yes, please. This is actually a beer you could drink for breakfast and still be functional. Generous tan head, good retention, smells of coffee, creamer, sweet vanilla with a slight tang. The taste carries that tang through, like the acidity of cold coffee. Pleasant to offset the bitter and the sweet. Body for the size of the beer is medium, slightly creamy but finishing dry with roast and acidity.

Great stuff.

Growler from The Growler Guys.

Black with a dense, dark brown head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks great! The nose is awesome, Plenty of coffee, dark roast with some cocoa, chocolate, a touch of vanilla. The palate is similarly coffee heavy with a wonderful, deep, medium-dark roast character with cocoa, mild fruitiness, a little vanilla. Drying, roasty on the finish, a little thin in spots, this beer is solid. A better mouthfeel - a slightly bigger body, perhaps? - would make this a LOT better.

Had this twice ... once on tap, and then in a growler taken home.

The beer is dark, with very little head and no lacing to speak of. Nice roasty aroma. The flavor has cocoa and roasted notes, a bit of coffee, and then finishes with a tartness that almost verges on sour. I'm not sure if I got a bad batch, or if this is the way it's supposed to taste. It doesn't taste bad, it's just surprising to find that tartness in a stout. The mouthfeel is medium, somewhat thinner than most stouts.

This is certainly a good beer, but it's not in the same league as other beers I've had from Barley Brown's.

Update - 10/30/2016. Had a pint on tap, and it's somewhat different than before. It's much better looking, with a big foamy head and lots of lacing. The aroma is about the same. The taste has just a tiny bit of tartness, not anywhere close to sour, as before. Scores updated.

64oz growler filled yesterday @ The Growler Run.
served in a tulip glass.

Pours black with a thin, foamy, toffee/brown head.

Lots of espresso and vanilla upfront, blends into lightly roasted malts.

Medium body, foamy mild carbonation.

A very well done breakfast stout. I hope I see it on tap more often.

This beer pours a dark, rich, inky black hue with definite off-white lacing. The aroma begins with rich notes of roasted coffee, caramel and fig. The beer is rich on the palate, with a full-bodied mouth-feel and a soft, tongue-coating oiliness that feels almost milky in nature.. The flavors coat the mouth and show strong notes of coffee, heavy cream, and baking chocolate with a finish that lingers of burnt caramel, toffee, and a hint of coconut.

This is an amazing offering from Barley Browns that I found on draft at a growler place in Portland. I think only Founder's Breakfast stout would be close in the running for best style in terms of flavor, texture and price point -- (I got a 64oz growler fill for only $12.99). I look forward to more darker offerings from Barley Browns in the coming winter months.
