cool summer seasonal here, a classic german hefe as a base, but spiked with fresh grapefruit juice and zest, giving it a really unique flavor and high capacity for refreshment, even if this seems maybe just a tad less refined than most of the beers i have had from these guys. the base beer is wheaty in taste and feel and has a bit of a coriander aroma, with some fresh orange and clove or something from the yeast, bright and fruity even without the fruit, and with a lighter body than a lot of these have, less texture from the wheat coming through. the grapefruit is fresh and i can tell its natural immediately, as the bitterness and some acidity from it really permeate right from the start. its zesty as much as juicy, and there is not a trace of sweetness from the grapefruit. i can see some thinking this is a little overdone or harsh, but compared to so many sugary grapefruit beers, i really like the intense pop this has in it, and i think it ends up a little more refreshing than most as a result. i also get a little more hop character on the finish than most hefe types have, which is in typical barley browns fashion in my experience. relatively big flavors in this, but still a cool summer beer, i like the authenticity of the fruit coming through and the way the base beer supports it. well done.

Draft at PreFunk. Milky golden/orange pour with small, fading head. Aroma is faint, almost not there. Taste is sweet, a bit too sweet, although the taste spectrum us within the bounds. Sweet, dry finish. Nice try.
