Growler gifted by the Pope of Baker City, awesome Brewmaster Shawn Kelso. 500th review!
The newest addition to the Barley Brown brewing portfolio, Wheelie is an exercise in subtlety and a revelation for those who erroneously believe that all BB beers are big, burly and over the top. One finger white head, medium-slow dissipation with significant lacing on the side of my BB pint glass. Medium gold clear body, several trails of carbonation rising from bottom of the glass. Nose is quite complex, firm malt backbone up front, sweetish and bready with a Pilsener like dryness, and a balanced multiple hop finish, some citrus, tropical and floral notes. Taste mirrors the nose, and I especially appreciated the fruity, not resiny hop finish. Medium full mouthfeel, good effervescence. At this ABV, IMHO this may be the most drinkable of all Barley Brown's beers, superbly balanced, a great summer quaffer. This may be Tumble Off's little brother, but this little boy is capable of becoming the gateway beer for those ready to appreciate the fruits of one of America's best brewmasters. Sublime and superb.
