On tap @ Apex
Black with a thin, light brown foam across the surface.
Spicy, peppery upfront with a solid roasty, cocoa backbone in both the aroma and taste.
An extremely well done chili beer. Plenty of spice without being overwhelming and a solid malt base to support it.

Brenda and I stayed the night at the Geiser Grand in Baker City a couple weekends ago.... We brought home a bunch of brews to share with the geeks... Tyler hooked this one up... Very cool brewery in a nice little town... but the hospitality at Barley Brown's is off the charts! Thanks Tyler.
Pours a clear dark brown... short lasting tannish head... not much in the way of lacing.
The nose is fantastic... slight malt sweetness... hints of dark roast.. but everything is punctuated by a great jalapeno aroma that only gives a nod to the heat and harmony to come.
The flavor is great... plenty of straight jalapeno flavor which I love and the the chili heat doesn't really build for a long while... dark malt and some caramel malt help carry the chili flavor and ultimately the chili heat... I love this brew because it never is overbearing... surprisingly... very surprisingly balanced.. The heat builds and builds and then levels off allowing a nice appreciation.
I would drink this one often if given the opportunity... I really like the "Hot Blonde", but this brew is much less a one trick pony.. It would go well on its own or with food.
Pretty cool .... pretty hot? The Boise peeps seemed to really enjoy it. Thanks again Tyler!! Don't forget about the RIS tasting on the 25th!!

On tap at Barley Brown's, 1.7.10.
Dark brown almost black clear body, hard to pick up any visible carbonation, one finger light brown head, medium dissipation with average lacing. Light malts dominate the nose with some peppers present, minimal hop aromas, a bit of floral notes. Taste is surprisingly light for the appearance, malty up front, with a nice jalapeno warmness on the lips in the finish, well balanced. Mouthfeel a bit on the light side of medium, very good effervescence, perfectly carbonated. A dark version of hot blond with use of darkening malts without effecting taste or mouthfeel. A must try for fans of chile beers. Tasty.
