Presentation: Draft, served in a weizen glass.
Appearance: The thick, tan colored, one a half finger head stays a round for a while and leaves behind a thin layer that stays until the end and a lot of lacing in webs and small spots. It's an extremely dark, reddish brown color.
Smell: The rich, meaty bacon aroma hits the nose first followed by some smoked wood notes and a hint of chocolate sweetness.
Taste: The taste follows the nose quite closely. The meaty bacon flavor starts things out; then there's the smokey malt and it finishes with some milk chocolate and maple syrup sweetness. It strikes a great balance between all these different elements too.
Mouthfeel: It's thick, rich, creamy, oily and robust with low carbonation.
Overall: A very well made Rauchbier with a lot of different and interesting aromas and flavors that looks awesome and has a good texture too. It's definitely refreshing to have such high quality and adventurous beers being made locally and so easily available. Something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.
