Had this on tap last August at Bill's Tavern in Cannon Beach, OR. The colour was an interesting dark, brownish garnet-purple with no head. The nose was hoppy but with a twang of BBQ sauce. On the palate there was even more BBQ sauce with a smoky, meaty character and some charcoal, to boot. Hops and a gentle bitterness came 'round on the finish. An interesting stout(??).

I suppose you could take "2x4" two different ways...a board you get knocked up the head with, or a wimpier truck. I got the impression of the wimpy truck with this beer.

Its appearances weren't bad though, very dark with a decent beige head. The head diminished fairly quickly, and left little lacing.

Smell was rather weak. I liked the smells I got, of dark roasted malts, a little burnt coffee, but it just didn't smell like much to me.

Taste also was slightly weak for me. I'm a fan of the bold, powerful stouts, and this one doesn't pack the punch of many other stouts. The dark roasted flavors are strongest, with a little bit of earth/dust at the end. Carbonation was rather low, the finish was short-lived and somewhat dry. Despite this, I still didn't mind drinking this beer.

I think this beer went well with food. It didn't do much on its own, but with some of the good pub grub at Bill's, it matches well. Easily drinkable, light for a stout, it might even be a session beer for some.
