I would define this as an English-style nut brown ale. However, the beer menu at Bills describes it as a reddish ale that they might call an amber if they didnt prefer the name bronze. As I sat pondering this conundrum, I overheard a man at the table next to me ask the waitress if she might have a mild beer such as an amber and she neglected to suggest the Bronze. I say someone should grab the semantics by the horn. Let us call it a brown ale and be done with it.
The Bronze Ale is Bills flagship beer and justifiably so. It reminds me of many great English session ales with its lack of lather, its cherry-vanilla, malty aroma and clean, satisfying finish. It is root beer colored with a slight mahogany hue.
I took to this beer like a fish takes to water. Its a smart session beer with the vibrancy of a tonic. Very friendly.
