When you drink at Bills, youll notice the beer menu that hangs high on the west wall. The beers are arranged top to bottom in order of how dark they are. The Golden Rye occupies the very top position making it Bills lightest, gentlest offering. It is a so-called crossover beer designed to appeal to those who have not yet developed a full appreciation for more flavorful craft beers.
Golden Rye is a bright sensible bronze with a rye, yeasty, and inescapable flavor. The pint I was served had a thin head almost none at all. In fact, though the flavor was still intact, the brew tilted towards being flat. The scant, almost indistinct smell and absent lace also contributed to the notion that the beer I had may have been slightly past its prime.
