on-tap @ Bill's Tavern
tulip pint

Clear, amber brown with a foamy off white head,

Mild piney, herbal, grassy hops fairly evenly balanced with a solid caramel malt base. Pretty similar in both the aroma and taste.

Medium body. Foamy, scrubbing carbonation.

A decent English-style IPA. Nothing particularly exciting, but certainly nothing unpleasant either.

16oz pint glass
Enjoyed at the brew pub on 9/3/12

A: Cloudy hazy orange amber, off white head, sticky lacing.

S: Smells of soapy, piney hop aromas. Some bready malts too. Nothing too exciting.

T: The taste matches smell. Some bitter pine notes, but nothing overly aggressive. It's a middle of the road balanced IPA. Not an overly bitter finish.

M: It's easy drinking. A medium bodied brew.

On draught at Bill's, Evil Twin is dark chestnut brown, lightly hazed. Thin white head quickly settles to big-bubbled skim, leaving light but sticky, foamy lace.

Smell is mild, malty, sugary caramel.

Taste is also lots of malty caramel. I didn't know this was a DIPA when I ordered it, oh well. A little sharp at first, the hops come though the caramel once my palate shifts, especially on the bitterness. Hop flavor is a little piny, resinous, but certainly not the star. A little sweet ethanol, with the iced tea crystal, like a spiked tea.

Mouthfeel is slippery, medium bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good for the style. The body is lighter than I expected, and it's fairly smooth.

It was a cold and foggy late morning on Cannon Beach when I arrived at Bill's Tavern. No tourists were about. Sure, they'd be in later, but it was early.

The Evil Twin was delivered to me at the bar with a frothy off-white head atop a clear deep amber/copper body. The head retention was surprisingly good, and it left some very nice lacing with each sip I took. Not too unlike the cold and windy rain-soaked morning outside the door, it was a fairly bitter brew. But there was warmth inside, and the Evil Twin also offered a soft belly of darkly caramelish malt. Grassy and minty - not citrusy - hops adorned it.

Perfectly balanced. Nicely rounded. Dry finish. Pretty much a perfect English style India Pale Ale. I enjoyed it with a cup of chowder and some grilled oysters, and by the time I was ready for another pint the sun had broken through the mist...

...and the tourist had arrived.
