A 330ml can with a BB of March 2018. Acquired a while back from the Flavourly webshop. This exclusive beer was named by Paul (duh) and is described on the label as a chocolate porter brewed with cocoa and 6 malt varieties.
A: Poured into a tulip. Can-conditioned and extremely lively. A dark reddish-brown colour that appears almost black in the glass. Produces a vast head of fluffy tan foam that lasts for a while before slowly reducing to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of dark malt with hints of roasted grain, molasses, cocoa, earthiness, faint stewed leaves and a lingering sour twang in the background. Pretty good.
T: Tastes of sour dark malt with notes of mild roasted grain, molasses, subtle cocoa, earthiness, ale yeast, faint stewed leaves and a substantial lactic acidity. Dry, followed by an understated malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing. I presume this is infected, though it isn't wildly unpleasant (just odd).
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and a rather thin body for the style. Slightly astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of sour dark malt, subtle roasted grain, a hint of cocoa and earthiness.
O: Decent enough - it just seems to have developed a lactic character (presumably lactobacillus). Looks nice, while the aroma and flavour showcase dark malt, subtle cocoa, earthiness and acidity. So-so body; could do with improvement. Drinkable, but was probably better before the sourness took hold (there's a good beer in there somewhere).
