A 330ml can with a BB of July 2018. Acquired a while back from the Flavourly webshop. An exclusive offering described on the label as a strong porter brewed with six malt varieties and US hops.
A: Poured into a tulip. Can-conditioned. A dark reddish-brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Holding it to the light reveals intense carbonation. Produces a huge head of creamy tan foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a thick surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of sweet dark malt with hints of caramel, barley sugar, mild roasted grain, dried fruit, subtle molasses, faint chocolate, ale yeast and a vague leafiness. Rich and satisfying - good stuff.
T: Tastes of dark malt with notes of caramel, molasses, roasted grain, dried fruit, mild chocolate, a hint of coffee, ale yeast and faint stewed hops. Somewhat sweet, followed by a robust malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Nice and creamy on the palate. Aftertaste of caramel/molasses, mild roasted malt, bitterness, dried fruit, ale yeast and stewed hops.
O: Nice - a rich, smooth porter with a pleasing sweetness. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a blend of sweet dark malt, roasted grain, dried fruit, ale yeast and faint hops. Lovely body. No obvious hop character but I wouldn't expect that in a porter anyway. Very drinkable; goes down a treat. Probably a one-off but very well done.
