From the growler via Jung;e Jim's Eastgate in a snifter. This
BSDA pours a murky orange tinged brown with pale amber highlights and
a nice head of white foam that subsides to a thick ring with light lacing.
Nose of fig, subtle chocolate, subtle cherry, and mild caramel malt notes.
Flavors follow the nose with light fig and date notes mixed with a mild
faint chocolate and caramel that is dried by a light cherry note on the rear.
Decent mouth feel; medium body, medium light carbonation, and a lightly
sweet yet dry finish with a hint of orange zest.
Overall, a decent effort but closer to an amber from Ommegang than
a labeled Belgian Strong Dark. That said it is still a solid brew from an
up and coming brewery in Cincy and the best part, it is named after
one of the greats of jazz.
Cheers
