Poured from a 473ml can.
Opaque and cola-like brown/black in appearance, sporting a tight, tan head that dissipated fairly quickly. No real lacing to speak of, but that might be more
It smells like a freshly brewed cup of coffee, with lots of roasted qualities, brightened by Swedish Berry. Letting it warm a little brings out some dark bread notes and a hint of something umami.
The flavour follows the nose almost to a fault. It's heaps of nicely roasted coffee, black with a touch of sweetness, but stopping short of being "sweet." Mingling in there is the red berry, followed by some classic black licorice candy underneath that, along with some cacao nib. Hop flavour is diminished, mainly there for bitterness, which is present but not overpowering. The acidity level is nice and balanced, and while it runs on the high side ABV-wise (without being Imperial), it avoids any sense of alcohol warmth, making it a bit of a creeper.
There's a bit of weight to this, giving it a creamy mouthfeel, but I wouldn't go so far as to say full-bodied. The carbonation is on the lower end of medium, keeping things lively without making its presence too known. The finish is medium and dry, leaving a nice amount of bitterness behind.
Really drinkable, this is such a well-crafted stout. It's so well balanced, and every time I open one, I'm struck by how much it just smells and tastes like a good cup of coffee. Probably my favourite stout from around the Toronto area, and my second favourite beer from this brewer.
