Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with some retention and some lacing notes. Aroma of black chocolate notes with some coconut and vanilla notes. Taste is also a mix of black chocolate notes with some coconut and vanilla notes and residual sugar notes. Body is a bit thin for style with good carbonation with no alcohol notes that are discernible. Enjoyable pastry stout but maybe would benefits from a fuller body.

Got this one from rutger this past summer. Cheers!

From a 473ml can into a snifter
Brewed with coconut, chocolate, lactose, coffee and vanilla

APPEARANCE: Pours out transparent black and yields a two finger, looser, foamy, pot holed light tan head with okay retention. Ugly looking head. Clear black body with minimal carbonation evident. Head quickly recedes to a splotchy wisp with foamy lacing. A ring and faint wisp remain but leave no lacing on the glass.

SMELL: Strong aromas of coffee, burnt malts, vanilla, sweet cream and milk chocolate on the nose. Hints of coconut as well. Lots of burnt coffee, vanilla and chocolate aromas.

TASTE: Burnt coffee beans with vanilla, sweet cream, lactose and milk chocolate up front. Bold flavors here. Coconut and cream at the swallow, then a big finish of roasted espresso, burnt malts, vanilla cream, milk chocolate and hints of coconut sweetness linger on the palate. Bitter coffee and roasted flavors.

PALATE: Medium body and higher levels of carbonation. A touch foamy on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Some roasted bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Good stuff. The look, especially the head, rather sucks on this one, but the flavor and aroma are really top notch. Lots of roasted flavors with coffee and solid sweetness from the adjuncts. Definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of this style of stout. Thanks again, rutger!

16 oz can split 2 ways. Pours black with scant short lived mocha head.
Aroma is indistinct malt sweetness with coffee grounds and some dark chocolate at the back - do not get any coconut.
Taste of sweet caramel malt, sweet coffee, and some dark chocolate.
Mouthfeel is medium to full - sweetness dominates- - decent though never exhibits anything unique. In fairness this is a few months old so perhaps some of the coconut flavour has fallen off.

A- Pours a dark cola color with midnight background of darkness. The carbonation seems creamy upon the pour but doesn't create any sort of head really....only a wisp of a film over the brew. The lacing it would seem is pretty much non existent as well, with only an oily film coating the inside of my glass. Not overly impressive in this department.

S- The aromas are of sweet coconut flesh and/or milk, coffee, creme de cocoa, highly dark chocolate, dark robust chocolate and black burnt malts, hints of vanilla and on the finish a dry Earthy hopped quality....smells slightly of dessert with a little bit of a bitter leafy smell.

T- Creamy coconut milk right upfront, with black French pressed coffee, huge bitter cocoa power, hints of vanilla bean, dry Earthy espresso malt that hits the back of the palate with small fury and the on the finish, is a hint of blackstrap molasses, licorice root and the hop presence is noted but subtle. Earthy dry overall!

M/O- Quite smooth yet deliberate on the palate, with the carbonation being somewhere in between velvety and full of zing....the flavors stick and linger well beyond the swallow in sticky sweet fashion...this is where the molasess character is really noticed. I think the coconut adds a hint of exotic richness to the overall experience and provides for a highly drinkable Stout! I recommend it and will get again!

473ml can - a 'milk chocolate coconut stout'. She took the midnight train goin' anywhere...

This beer pours a fairly solid black, with subtle amber basal edges, and two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and rather broadly bubbly brown head, which leaves nothing in the way of lace anywhere near the glass as it hastily dissipates.

It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, cheap cocoa powder, coconut milk, day-old coffee grounds, and a bit of rubbing alcohol. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, medium dark chocolate wafers, ethereal copra meat, cafe-au-lait, and some faint earthy, musty, and quite perfumed floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is kind of lame in its milquetoast frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and not particularly smooth, as what I can only characterize as booze making a tough go of things here. It finishes off-dry, the chocolate liqueur experience complete.

Overall - yeah, this one seems to go off the rails quite quickly, with the alcohol stealing the show, and obviously not in a good way. It's actually pretty hard to put back, and I am considering drain-pouring it, but on the other hand, maybe I'll work hard to get my fill (and my money's worth). Not recommended.

Poured from a 473ml can, Midnight Train is an imperial stout brewed with oat flakes, lactose, milk sugar, and cocoa powder. It was then conditioned with coconut, and espresso beans.
Pours a very dark brown/black with a thick tan head.
A nice nose of dark chocolate and coconut/toffee.
A porter with some nice bitterness but smooth, very well done.
