32oz crowler picked up at the brewery. Canned 11/14/18. Served in a Variant teku. Enjoyed 11/18/18.
Pours a opaque orange with a tall cap pf white fluff. The head shrinks pretty quickly, leaving a thin, broken rail around the edges but nothing else to call retention.
Smells of piney mango, guava, orange, peaches and melon. I keep going back to enjoy the vibrant, fruity aroma.
The flavor starts with a big burst of juicy mango and guava. There are some slightly bitter notes of peach fuzz, orange peel and fruit skins. Towards the back end of the palate some malt presence creeps in, brining flavors of oats and desweetened cake. There is certainly a little alcohol burn but it goes down considerably easier than it should given the abv.
Smooth, medium full body with moderate carbonation. The bitter juicy finish keeps mango and guava in the forefront with a little peach character in there too.
Variant continues to make good on their name. They have proven themselves adept at creating a delicious base and then playing with it. This rendition of Double Cashmere is much smoother and more drinkable with a delightful amount of fruit character.
