It's a little in the spicy side for a Helles. Perhaps it would find itself at home somewhere between a Pilsner and a Helles. Perhaps it doesn't matter because it always hits the spot.

Appearance: pale, clear gold. Fluffy white head with moderate retention.
Aroma: light bread. Not much on the hops.
Taste: Bready, dry. Moderate bitterness.
Mouth-feel: Moderate carbonation. Moderate length finish.
Overall: Enjoyable beer; but unfortunately, missed the mark for a Helles style. It was much too bitter for Helles. If Variant will market this as a German Pils they will have a much higher score. It has a nice, crisp bitter snap at the end.
