not retired, on tap here now. i recently learned that this place is also a distillery, and now i feel like its sort of tainted the way i view their beer, like this is almost a distillers beer vibe, the ferment seems somewhat fast and careless, not what you want even from an english yeast strain, and the attention to detail in terms of the carbonation and such just isnt great, a continuation of what has been true of their other beers i have been trying over recent days. copper in color and clear, but almost dead flat, even right away from the tap, close to lifeless, not a great look. the nose and flavor are slightly estery which is weird for this yeast, sweet, which makes sense for this grain profile, and minimally hoppy, which also isnt way off for the style, but this is bland beer, unexciting when i taste it. combine the unremarkable flavor with the almost lazy seeming quality, and this one leaves quite a lot to be desired, a shame, because its only going to make american craft drinkers want to further distance themselves from the quickly dying english pale style. they can do better, if they cant they probably shouldnt be in business...
