Collaboration with Mortalis Brewing Company
We conditioned this on medium roast Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans, two rounds of toasted coconut flakes, and a smithering of Equadorian cacao nibs. Super rich, coconut forward with beautiful JBM berry notes throughout.

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle 2023 on the label. picked up at a shop in Pennsylvania during a recent visit. Been in my cellar for several weeks.
The beer pours a dark cola brown and rests in my glass slightly darker. A dense creamy beige head foams up about 1 cm and fades to a sturdy surface covering and leaves very dense and clingy lattice on the sides of the glass after a swirl or sip.
Aroma is some chocolate notes and sweetened coffee with faint toasted coconut in the background. No hop character to note and not really boozy either. Generally a sweeter side nose for the aroma.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with very smooth texture and fine gentle carbonation. Beer drinks pretty easy for a bigger imperial stout.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some sweeter chocolate and some sweetened coffee here again. There is a bit of roasted malt and then finishes with sweetened coffee. Not a lot of coconut on the flavor profile. I also dont get any hop profile and booze is well hidden. This beer is a pretty sweet imperial stout and I enjoy it, but I could see it being too sweet for some samplers.
Glad I picked up this bottle.

Look: It pours black with a brown head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: It has roast and chocolate aromas. There are some coffee elements with vanilla and coconut.
Taste: It is quite sweet up front with chocolate and coffee flavors. There are lightly roasted elements with medium coconut and vanilla.
Feel: It has a smooth and silky texture with the finish being quite sweet. It has strong alcohol warming.
Overall, it's a bit too sweet for me, but not to the point where it is not a good beer. It has plenty of flavor.

After having the insanely mind-blowing barrel-aged version, I snapped at the chance to grab the base beer, in what I believe to be a 500ML bottle.
The pour is black. The slight head is dark. Aroma brings acres of malt sweetness, coconut, & a twinge of chocolate.
Written In The Stars is a poster child for the pastry stout movement (which I enjoy immensely). Massively thick body, with attendant deep malt sweetness, greets the palate. Second banana (there is no banana taste here, thank goodness) is undercooked brownies, oozing coconut. The sugar high is no joke; might have been a better decision to split this. Oh well.
Lacking the complexity of the barrel-aged version & the bourbon to restrain the sweetness to merely lethal levels. Still a very good beer.

500ml bottle at share. Dark brown pour with a thin biege head. Aroma is chocolate, with coconut and coffee mixed in alternately. Taste is the same, heaps of chocolate up front with cocnut and coffee notes layered on top. Dense, deep, sweet. smooth.

This pour is the thiccest of thiccbois, so if you like that sort of mouthfeel, this will be your jam. Strong coconut and fudge brownie batter notes on the palate, preceded by the earthy coffee and followed by hints of more mild berries like blueberry and jujube.

A - Pitch black pour with no lcaing or carbonation.
S - Intense gooey fudge, brownies, and chocolate on the nose. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Decadent.
T - Gooey liquid fudge brownie, coconut, totasted cocoa nibs, followed with more liquid chooclate, a slight bit of char, alcohol, and jammy berries.
M - Thick, viscous, lip smacking sticky, and silky with some warming in the back of the throat.
O - There's a picture of this beer in Webster's next to the definition of "Decadent".

This one pours a very dark black color, with a tiny head, no lacing, and coconut floaties.
This one smells like boozy chocolate milk, coconut cream, coffee creamer, blueberry, and melted mikshake.
Despite the coffee and coconut, the chocolate here is the star, with this being super reminiscent of chocolate milk. Despite not being added, this kind of tastes like hazelnut or roasted peanuts a little bit. The coconut is still quite forward in the taste, but very sweet, with a nutty, creamy, and sweet flavor. I don't get a lot of direct coffee character, but the sweet fruity notes of the coffee do come through a decent bit here.
This is very thick bodied, and extremely creamy and rich, with basically no booziness.
This is pretty ridiculous - it's essentially fancy and sweet boozy chocolate milk. I'd maybe a little bit of balance here, but it certainly tastes very good.

Poured pure black with subtle brown head on top, the head face and there is some chunky oily residue kind of floating on top. I assume that is from whatever cake batter mix they've dumped into this. The smell of the beer is definitely my favorite part of the beer, it's got a massive brownie batter aroma to it. The taste is sweet, much like fudge or chocolate cake. The feel is on the thicker side, might be a little too rich. Overall it's good beer if you're into pastry stouts, if not, I wouldn't recommend it.

Imprint’s version of Written In The Stars imperial stout collab with Mortalis. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, double coconut, and Equadorian cacao nibs.
Oh baby! Poured cold to a tulip, it’s shiny oily black with a bunch of discernible coconut floaters. Nose is like you open a freshly fallen coconut on a beach, while you had some fresh JBM coffee brewing on a fire. First sips are INTENSE but smooth coffee, hearty, chewy coffee. Right behind that is INTENSE coconut, fresh, pulpy, sweet coconut. Throughout all that as an overlay is the cacao nib flavor…slightly acidic, with a chocolate liqueur presence. Mouthfeel is chewy and syrupy. It’s a prominent dark malt base with all the adjuncts clearly and deliciously present in their own rights. Alcohol is not biting, though there is a fair amount of warming, plus the chocolate liqueur aspect gives the insinuation of the 11% ABV.
I’d almost deduct some points somewhere if there was a BA version, just because that would probably be even better? LOL!
While it’s a thick, chewy, heavy, sweet stout, I don’t consider it a “dessert” type in that it’s not some s’mores, ice cream,?tiramisu sort of flavor profiled attempt.
OMG Sept ‘22 has a BA release. I must get some!
