2024 version of Wrath. Poured room temp from a sealed bottle into a 16oz pint glass. Appearance is 4000 mile used motor oil....the most dense darkest brown you can get without being black. Opaque. No head at all. Instead there was a thin layer of some sort of floaters. I am hoping this is either toasted coconut, roasted pecans, or vanilla caviar as the bottle states and not bacteria.
Aroma is brandy, toasted malt, faint coconut, roasted peanuts, vanilla, burnt sugar.
Taste follows the nose with sweet rich maltiness, vanilla, brandy, roasted nuts, caramel, coconut, brown sugar. The beer does not taste 'off' at all, so i can only assume all of this residue and floaters are part of the fermentation process and remnant particulates from vanilla caviar (beans?), pecans, and coconut.
Mouthfeel is very full and sticky sweet. The only bittering is subtle and more a function of the apple brandy barrel aging process and not necessarily the hops. It is pretty smooth however, with some warming as it goes down. The flavors are quite decadent. This is a very thick and sweet dessert variation of an Imperial Stout. It is tasty for sure and I'm enjoying it.
Overall, this isnt bad. Not great but not bad. The appearance with the surface of coconut shavings or pecan pieces was borderline alarming to me. Perhaps a brief description on the bottle might alert people to alot of sediment and floaters/particulates. Again, I hope that's what this is as the beer tastes fine with no off-flavors. Guess I'll know tomorrow morning. Alas, I would try this again as it is local and I support that. It is also enjoyable as a sipping brew.
