The contents of a pint can that emptied into a clear glass liter mug show to be a dark purple. It's the color of rich Concord Grape Juice. Of course, it's more carbonated than that, although there's no head. It may look like the Concord version of grape juice, but it smells nothing like it. Whatever grape contribution to the smell there is, it's overpowered by the tuti-fruity bubble gum and marshmallow flavorings. There's no head at all, although solids from the puree are obvious. It tastes sweet, probably a little sweeter than ideal. But, it doesn't taste badly. The grape flavor actually does make an appearance inside the mouth. Yet, it's still not up to the bubble gum taste inclusion. Taste points awarded because it tastes as advertised. Taste points deducted because it tastes like advertised Thankfully, there is a little tartness that makes this better rounded. Certainly, this isn't everyone's ideal sour, but there's nothing disingenuous about it. The label clearly advises that this is a heavily fruited sour and it is. The only glass lacing is from the fruit puree solids. It is labeled as a Smoothie Sour Ale and with actual grapes included and marshmallow and bubble gum flavors, a sweet desert beer should be expected. Heavily fruited here means a rich mouthfeel and the smoothie description lives up to its name. Again, not for everyone, but for those that like to try things unconventional, in this case a sweet fruity desert beer, this is something worth the experience. It really does taste like grape flavored bubble gum.
