Here at Dobré Brewhouse in Beach, North Dakota and this was on tap here. Had a few offering last from these guys when going through these parts before and this was on par with those as it was nicely done!

This had a lovely, deep mahogany hue to it with a soft, tan head that quickly settled. Deep and full lacing remained as I sipped this - can’t say that I’ve had something on tap that’s looked this good, in a very long time! Pine, caramel, rye, and a bit of pepper were on the nose as the balance really shone through on the palate. Sharp, crisp, a bit spicy, and with plenty of malt, this was both full in taste and full-bodied.

Felt more like a Rye IPA as it warmed up with plenty of crisp bite and more than carbonation to keep it light-hearted. A bit of warming from the alcohol complemented everything as I warmed up just a tad while sipping this. Some moss entered the fray in the back as this was as complex as could be for a beer of this style. Really enjoyed this and would have picked up cans of this back in Medora, if my car wasn’t already full. Nice job with this one!

16oz can. No dating information found.
Amber brown colored body. Two fluffy fingers of light tan head. Leaves behind big spots of lacing.
Aroma of roasted malts, rye spice, and piney hops.
Taste follows, with roasted malts, rye spice, which is followed by the piney hops. Has a bite but no bitterness.
Thicker than medium mouth feel. Smooth texture. Good carbonation.
Good choice if one likes a significant rye spice note. Not out of balance but the malts lead and the hops mop up at the end. Has some malt sweetness, which is blended with the piney hops.

at the brewery/restaurant, served in a snifter, has a lovely dense and dull reddish brown (currant? or tawny?) with a thin head that recedes fairly quickly. Nose is bready with a kiss of round citrus and green Cascade...a little peppery rye, too, especially on the taste, which more or less follows the nose. This is full mouthful, but it isn't heavy...on the less lively side, but the rye gives a little kick. All in all, this is pretty malty and the rye is more than a bit player, but not quite central...still, I quite enjoyed this one. Definitely worth a shot.
