This was another beer that I picked up at the Medora C Store while I was out in North Dakota a few months back. I'm into National Parks (as I will have visited all in the Lower 48 by the end of this year) and spent the day at Theodore Roosevelt before coming across this brew. Because of this brew's moniker and the presence of Chokecherry, I had to give it a go and indeed, this was a pleasant surprise that was fun to drink without any pretension, as this did the Peace Garden State proud!
Whatever a chokecherry is, this had to be the color of it since it was hard to describe otherwise. Translucent, softly radiant, and uniform in appearance, this had a nice look to it as it was topped off with plenty of offsetting, light salmon head that slowly and evenly settled down. No lacing was left behind, which was a shocker given this brew's pour. Lots of chokecherry, wheat, tall grass, and muddled earthiness was in the nose as the taste closely followed suit. Slightly tangy and spicy, this had a nice and subtle juiciness to it that was nicely countered by the wheat and full body. A light amount of carbonation kept this heavy for the style, but just light enough on the palate that this was easily enjoyable.
Couldn't find the booze here and I couldn't find any canning date either. Humor aside, the label was playful and did both our former President and the place he once called home proud, as this beer was uniquely North Dakota. A syrupy and slightly sweet aftertaste left me wanting another can, although I finished the others in the 4-pack long before I made it back home. Even if you're not from that neck of the woods, this was a lovely beer that wasn't quite anything I had before - down to the chokecherry. Glad to have gotten my hands on this!
