Initial taste is skunky and flat. Creamy mouthfeel and low ABV may say "daytime porter," but the taste just isn't there.
I have no desire to add ratings on "look," smell, etc. This is written for me.

On-draught @ the brewery. Cost was $2.5 USD for a 5oz pour as part of a flight.
Coffee, dark malts, specialty chocolate malts, caramel, malted milk balls/Whoppers, a scintilla of cherry.
Not as overcarbonated as the other three ales I've tried from the brewery, and definitely a fair bit better. Could it be Southern Heights is brewing mediocre IPAs to cater to the market and bring the business in when their true talent lies elsewhere?
It's a little safe in terms of close adherence to style convention without much to distinguish it, but it's truer to form than the shallow attempts at IPAs I've this far tried from the brewery.
Far better than one would expect from a brewery not even three full months into their tenure. I can definitely see this finding success in the Texas market if they steer into the classic porter skid, but if Southern Heights tries to go to bat against additive-laden Texas Porters like 512's Pecan Porter, they're gonna go down like a sweet muffin. Keep it classic, lads. A pint of plain is your only man.
