a kolsch spiked with coffee, and a pretty good one at that, my first beer from these guys and one that i would definitely drink again. how many times have i driven past here and had no idea this was a brewery? a lot. im glad i finally figured it out, as the beer was solid, if a little predictable. this one has just a little color to it from the coffee, a nice high white head, and a rich cocoa forward coffee aromatic with some roast to it but not apparent bitterness, short of all the way dark or concentrated in that sense, which i dig here. subtle wood and licorice when i taste it, a brown sugar sweetness that tastes nice but doesnt all the way belong in a kolsch, and i think it limits drinkability to no more than a few when i get into it. hints of toasted chestnut, burning marshmallow, and rich espresso crema, all of which is awesome. the kolsch yeast and its attendant crispness is lost a little, but as simply a vehicle for coffee character, this is an awesome base beer, i think i would miss it if it were gone. dry enough still, fluffy feeling, interesting, and well crafted. i had a lot of fun with this, nice in the fall. maybe my favorite beer from my visit to this unassuming little brewery!
