Poured from 330mL can into my Belvárosi sörfesztivál tulip. Best by 2/29/32 … whew, glad I got to this, it’s only good for another 7 years!
Appearance: rich, deep brown hue with a rather thin layer of tan foam atop — I can forgive the thin head in a BA beer like this.
Smell: oak, whiskey, sugar, and general burnination. There’s a raw element to the wood here, such that I think maybe it would benefit from aging.
Taste: much like in the aroma, the wood feels really raw; it’s definitely got some barrel in there, that’s for sure! The maple syrup barrel doesn’t come through as maple specifically; it’s more of a bitter sweetness. I like some of the components here, but man, this beer is rough around the edges.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a low carbonation and an okay creaminess.
Overall: I gotta say, it’s not my favorite BA stout. I like what they were going for, but I think this beer needs some sweetness and body and mellow-fication to really shine.
