my first beer from these guys, simple and well made, but nothing real profound either. the rye puns in the names of beers are getting old for me, especially because in this instance it sets me up to expect a ton of rye, but we end up without as much as i was hoping for, at least in the traditional dry pale and spicy sense. instead there is a bit of a redder sweeter caramel malt thing happening with it, it rounds out the most characteristic part of the rye, which is a loss for me in this, but i like the flavor overall, i appreciate the unique vegetal hop profile, it works with this malt mix, and i like the completeness of it overall, its balanced and flavorful and interesting as they go, albeit a little more substantial and less drinkable than i thought i was getting into with it. they would do well to drop a little of the heavier malt out of this and lighten it up, dry it out, and let the rye malt shine a bit more, but on the whole this is a tasty brew, autumnal and nice this time of year.
