I recently picked this up at The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS) & so I first took, resized & submitted the approved pic. I have learned to do this as others will swoop in under me if I simply add the beer with every intention of coming back to clean up the entry to include a pic, Notes, et al. I've learned my lesson well!
From the Bottle: "Officially founded in 2012, Sobel's Obscure Brewery (S.O.B.) is a family of beerologists committed to making the world a better place, one outstanding craft beer at a time."; "Blended with honey and blood orange, this refreshing hefeweizen has hints of sweetness."; Not Hoppy: Smooth & Refreshing 5 - 25 IBU"; "Get Your Gnome On!"
I wanted to give this misspelled beer every chance to succeed so I did some in-bottle agitation before Pop!ping the cap. The release was a little messy with some fizzing & foaming in the neck so I proceeded with a quick, heavy-handed pour. I was surprised & disappointed by the lack of head, so I preformed an in-glass swirl that raised a brief inger of fizzy, foamy, bone-white head that quickly disspipated to wisps. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Clarity in a Hefeweizen?!? A Krystalweizen, perhaps, but this was not that. Nose was pretty sweet with a strong presence of honey with a light orange-y citrusiness. Hmm. No banana, bubble gum or clove? Mouthfeel was kind of thin & watery. The taste was very honey-like and quite sweet with an underlying orange-y citrusiness, but this in no way, shape or form resembled a Hefeweizen. Finish was semi-sweet with the orange citrus putting just enough of an edge on the honey flavor to keep it from being fully sweet. It was not a bad beer, per se, but it definitely was not a Hefeweizen. YMMV.
