Appearance: Pours a dark amber color with a one finger ecru head that fades to a ringlet and archipelago; dotty lacing
Smell: Caramel, toasted bread and pine ensconced in raw Bourbon barrel tones
Taste: Caramel and toasted bread forward with piney bitterness developing; after the swallow, the Bourbon flavors crash in and dominate the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet
Overall: I like the base beer her as it captures the American Barleywine style nicely but the Bourbon barrel treatment is a bit harsh and raw
