A- This one pours a reasonably clear medium chocolate brown color, with reddish orange background hues when held against the light. The foamy head definitely has the beginnings of a nitro look, but never gets real thick, even after the hard pour I gave this.....it is tan in color, and is really nothing more than a thick frilly layer....it does retain quite well though. Carbonation appears to be mild, with scattered patches clinging to the inside of the glass and lumbering ever upward. Lacing is quite alright, with some animal formations sticking lazily before slowly sliding back into the liquid. Overall this is an interesting looking stout.
S- Ok right off the bat, I do smell a peanut butter aroma, however, this really reminds me of the powdered unsweetened variety that you may find in a health food store. Underlying aromas of creamy yeast, vanilla, milky chocolate, and doughy richness. After a few minutes this really starts to smell like a Peanut Butter cookie! The lactose comes out well after this warms up slightly....
T- This is much more astringent than I was preparing for to be honest. This has a lot of chocolate and perhaps some modest quantities of black malt used, providing a good bittering sensation. There is a roasted peanut flavor, but I find it not very sweet......black coffee, raw cocoa and a lingering hop bitterness round this out. Muted afterthoughts are of vanilla, blackstrap molasses, and char.
M/O- Medium light in body and in my opinion, this is lacking in palatable carbonation....definitely needs more. I'm not a huge fan of this overall and its unfortunate, but I would say that this should stay in the tap room and out of the stores.....speaking of knock outs, as the can states this is, it knocks my palate down for the count and there it stays...no rematch to come.....
