Japanese Black IPA is a unique fusion of American Black IPA and asian culinary influences. A highly-hopped beer brewed with barley, rice, and midnight wheat which gives it a nice black appearance and dry finish, allowing ginger & Szechuan peppercorn to mingle with the hop profile.

Pours black with a finger of khaki foam. Head retention is great, with a pillowy foam laying atop for a while. Aroma is roasty malts with pine and dank hops. The twist in the aroma comes via some rather strong spices and tea. Flavor profile is citranella-esque. Pine and dank hops give it a little bite and aggression, with roasty, toasty malts giving it darkness. Tea and spices add to the complexity - and uniqueness. Mouth feel is medium with a light velvety, fizzy texture, sort of a cross between a heavy stout texture and a crisp IPA. Overall, an intriguing black IPA that checks the traditional boxes well, and then delivering a spicy, tea twist.
