Collaboration with Torn Label. Inspired by the Cascadian Dark Ales of old, we wanted to revisit the Black IPA with a new school twist. Cold-fermented with our house Kolsch yeast, brewed with Pilsner malt, flaked rice, and Sinamar (dark malt concentrate), we achieved a mind-freak of a beer that doesn't taste nearly as dark as it looks. Hopped with Falconer's Flight, Simcoe, and Cashmere, there are a lot of bright and citrusy hop flavors that burst through the very minimal roast flavor. Some of these hops are also found in Torn Label's Alpha Pale Ale, so there's a familiarity for those Alpha drinkers.

Pours black with a finger of khaki foam. Good retention on the head. Aroma is leans into dark malts - roasty and toasty - sandwiching layers of earthy, sticky hops. Mild earthy malts add some extra grit to the nose. It's quick and dry in aroma. Flavor profile clings to hops a little more, hitting notes of sticky, grassy, earthy and mild resin. Roasty and toasty malts are present throughout, but become more apparent at the end, revealing cracker malts at close too. As a whole, it's dry. Mouth feel is crispy with a medium thickness. Overall, a pretty wild little number. Manages to combine the dryness of cold IPAs with the darkness of Black IPAs and yet somehow retain a drinkable, dry, and crispy package.
