Collaboration with Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven
The first of the Brunswick Bierworks Handshake Brew Series serves an almighty moreish New World Double Bock named Ora et Labora which translates to Work and Pray; the philosophy of the La Trappe monks. Brewed by La Trappeās Brouwmeester Lodewijk Swinkels and Brunswick Bierworks Master Brewer Christian Riemerschmid von der Heide, this collaboration weaves traditional krausen fermentation with a mighty malt bill and a unique blend of Opal, Loral, Mandarina Bavaria and Ontario Newport hops sourced from the Americas and Europe; bridging the two worlds of brewing.
Proceeds from this brew will be focused on the La Trappe relief effort at the Kyotera Hosptial in Uganda.

Can anyone please provide the nutrition panel for this beer? I am working with double bock in food lab to estimate total carbohydrates and want to compare results if anyone could be so kind.

Can: Poured a deep murky brown color ale with a medium size off-white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with light caramel ester notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is a good mix of candi ester with some caramel notes and light toffee notes with some residual sugar notes. Body is about average e for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Very enjoyable but closer to a mix of quad and bock then a straight German bock.

12oz can. Poured out a semi-opaque, dark, dark brown color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, subtle coffee taste and toffee. Sweet toffee and caramel with a roasted coffee bitterness.

Very dark brown body with some islands of white bubbles to go with a ring. Smell features caramel, biscuit, pear, apple, black pepper, pulm, earthiness, and candi sugar, but there was a good bit of booze leaking out. Taste is more refined, with caramel and earth notes leading, add in some dried leaves, orange zest, some sneaky hops, and raisin to the smell flavors, but not all play together at once, instead of sip is a little different. This is neither good nor bad in this case, just worth nothing. Feel suffers a little from the booze leak, but otherwise is clean, sticky, and indolent.

Bought as a single, cuz I saw the date on the bottom of the can.
Gorgeous pour, a bit hazy deep amber with over a finger of foam. Excellent lacing.
Malty perfumey nose. The age of the beer comes into play. Light spicing is there and welcome.
Malty with a spicy hop character in the taste. Some metallic notes and a noticeable tartness that grows during the session.
Body is good and I reckon that this was a solid example of the style when it was fresh. Okay, the date is October 26th, 2017.
It just showed up in town so someone screwed up big time, eh?

A: Pours a clear, almost opaque deep mahogany in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate to significant garnet red + chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy beige head that slowly reduces to a couple of small to medium sized patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of toasted + bready + dark + caramel malts with just shy of moderate amounts of caramel + brown sugar sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of earthy + spicy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of toasted + bready + dark malts as well as light to moderate flavors of caramel malts with moderate amount of caramel + brown sugar sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of earthy + spicy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which lingers through the finish.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly sticky with a light amount of alcohol warming in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily with fairly well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable with a nice balance between the malty sweetness and the earthy spiciness of the hops allowing some sweetness without being cloying.
