Canned Sept 26, 2019, picked up at the brewery
Pours a medium-large foamy fizzy 1 finger white head with medium retention, a bit of soapy lacing, crystal clear pale blond color
Nose strong malt, cereal grain, light perfumey alcohol, mix of fruity esters, blond but sweet candy malt, touch of sweet orange cake, very light herbal citrusy hops
Taste brings more malts, grainy cereal and a little cracker notes, blond candy malt, sweet rich like doughy malt, a bit of warming alcohol and perfumey flavor, more fruity esters mostly pome fruit with a little citrus, light earthy herbal fruity hops, with medium-light bitterness, mild sweet finish with more lingering bitterness at medium to a little higher level, candied orange zest and cake icing
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, medium-higher almost effervescent carb, some warming alcohol, touch of astringency
Overall eh, it's OK, nice malt profile overall but doesn't have enough of the grainy-sweet pilsner malt character, hops don't really bring much to the table which is OK, until the nagging bitterness on the finish which is not that OK, including the little astringency, so a lot more like an American Strong lager, or strong pale lager, than Helles Bock.
