Foeder-conditioned Altbier with rooibos tea. Basically $20 a 4-pack at Parleaux after tax and their weird pricing/add-on fees (get a receipt and tell me what you see).
Deep amber malts, noticeable residual sugars, toast, caramel, subdued bready tones, dry tea, and vague woodsiness, but not from oak. Use of foeders instead of barrels isn't helping the beer, but then again one wonders why an altbier is aged in a foeder at all (especially since something like rooibos wine - undoubtedly an inspiration for this beer - explicitly uses rooibos in lieu of oak).
I won't lie and say it's a great expression of an altbier in the traditional sense, but as a beer divorced from tradition and judged for what it is - Parleaux's latest play in the sandbox - it's rather tasty. I don't know that it's worth its $5 USD/can pricetag, but it's a nice experiment to try once.
