Look: Very dark brown, nice two finger head with a fairly aggressive pour. Great retention
Aroma: Malty, bread crust, tobacco,
Taste: Slightly sweet on the tip of the tongue then increasingly sweet across the palate.
Flavor: Malty, bread crust, tobacco, like the aroma plus oak and subtle bourbon (it is bourbon barrel aged), a bit of molasses and some dark fruit, prunes, raisins, plum
Feel: Medium full mouthfeel, soft carbonation, surprisingly not boozy for 11.3% alcohol.
Overall: This is an interesting barleywine, nice complexity. Very enjoyable. A great slow sipper, but isn’t that how most people drink barleywine? I really like it and would buy it again, but I don’t think it is available anymore. An excellent offering from a very small local brewery.
