On-tap at Steelhead Burlingame
A: The pour is a very dark brown, almost black, with a touch of red in the color when looked at in the right light. There's a dense khaki head that sits on top.
S: This is one roasty imperial stout. In fact, the nose is mostly roasted malts with a bit of coffee and some licorice. There's a touch of dark fruits, but not much chocolate. It's also mildly acidic.
T: Again, the intensely roasted character is there and it gives the beer a pretty bitter and mildly acidic flavor. There's a fair amount of earthiness, which I would assume is from the hops. Some bitter dark chocolate begins to come into play, and there are some pleasant fig and plum flavors.
M: The body is not overly impressive, but it's not terribly deficient either; I'd call it medium. The carbonation is too.
D: While this beer does have some flaws, overall, it's not too bad. I don't know if I'd make an effort to have it again, but it wasn't too tough to drink.
