Review from 7/19/12, on tap at Steelhead Brewpub in Burlingame, CA: pours very cloudy yellow gold color, full of bubbles racing up it with a small off white head that faded quickly and left a creamy layer on top and decent foamy lacing.

Smells of wheat, yeast, orange peel, clove, light caramel and some grains; nose is faint and weak overall and I had to inhale deeply 3 times to get those aromas.

Tastes of yeast, orange peel, wheat, mild clove, light caramel, lemon, coriander, grains, some wheat bread or biscuit and light spices like pepper or dry floral hops; tastes better than it smells and was an above average hefe in the flavor category. May have been some tart fruit like a pear or sour grape in the aftertaste, but for the most part this was pretty basic.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp yet smooth at the same time, with very fizzy carbonation, a medium body and a semi-clean finish that has a slight citrus bitterness.

Overall, this was decent, with the flavor being good enough to carry it through its other shortcomings.

On-tap at Steelhead Burlingame

A: The pour is a turbid/hazy pale golden color with a finger's worth of white head. Served with a slice of lemon, unfortunately.

S: The nose, surprisingly, starts off with clove and banana notes. There's a definite wheat character, too, almost a raw wheat thing going on. Not a very good nose, but not horrendous.

T: This is probably too bitter for a hefeweizen, but it's not overwhelming. There's a decent clove flavor, but not really any banana, and not really too sweet. Lightly tart at points and a definite straw flavor on the finish.

M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation.

D: I guess I've had worse brewpub hefeweizens, but this wasn't all that great either.
